Default Missing A Driver on XP

I have been unable to get my U300 recognized by my pc which has XP operating system. Although the mp3 player is supposed to be Plug & Play, it does not work and I have tried to add it manually via Add new Hardare but I can never succeed due to the apparent lack of a suitable driver. I tried to use the Windows 98 disk that comes with the mp3 player as a last resort but that did not work either.
This website does not seem to have a driver for XP for this device either. Is there somewhere I can get one or is the device defected?

The FAQ section on this website explains how to fix this issue.

[1] Update your Windows XP operating system by downloading patches, security updates, critical updates and service packs from www.windowsupdate.com. This should fix 90% of these types of issue.

[2] Your anti-virus and anti-spyware tools can interfere with the hardware setup. Temporarily disable these programs and try reinstalling the player.

[3] There maybe a problem with your USB controllers. These are basically what controls your USB card. I suggest that you take a look at your computer manufacturer's website and obtain the latest USB controller drivers. Some manufacturer's have an all-in-one driver package for system chipsets. Download these and install it on your computer. This should then allow you to install your mp3 player.

Thanks for the reply. I keep my pc uptodate on patches and drivers and have no problem with any other hardware.
Strangely I did manage to get the MP3 player recognised once and put a few songs on and thought it was sorted, but it has never been recognized again since.
I bought this player because it said it was "Easy Plug and play" but it does not seem to do what it says on the tin.

It may be something else. Could be to do with the player. Have you tried connecting the player to another computer?

If you are still having problems then there could be a fault with the USB port. In this case contact your retailer and ask them to exchange your player.

Unhappy Me too

I am having exactly the same issue; I was given the MP3 player as a stocking filler this Christmas just gone (therefore I don't have a receipt). It worked fine for a little while, say about a week, then I noticed it said "Loading..." on its screen indefinitely, until I take the battery out. Plugging in the device showed me that XP no longer recognised it at all (it would just class it as a USB device) and required a driver that doesn't seem to exist. I didn't try the Win98 CD and have since lost it, but then it obviously wouldn't have made any difference; besides, the other guy with the issue had tried it. I think I tried the device on a different computer with the same results.

If anyone can figure out what is up with the device and how to go about resolving the issue, I'd be extremely grateful (and I assume the other guy would lol).

It seems that there is a problem with the mp3 player's removable disk drive. We had this problem with the old Play.com models 3 years ago. Try and contact the retailer and tell them that you received the player as a gift from someone. Unfortunately we do not have the facility to replace or refund mp3 players.

Iīve been having exactly the same problem as Stu below, but not being very technologically minded, wasnīt sure how to go about fixing it. My mp3 worked for about 3 weeks then tried to play a song one time and it just turned itself off and on again and now it says īLoading...īindefinitely whilst the battery is in.

Iīm in a similar situation to Stu also in that I donīt have the receipt/guarantee on me as Iīm travelling through South America at the moment! So itīs even more complicated as I canīt go to an HMV to explain the situation and get them to look at it.

It serves me right in a way for only spending 15 quid on the thing but itīs still extremely frustrating! If anyone has any advice on how I could possibly fix it remotely (is it worth taking into a local electricals store?) itīd be much appreciated.

Thanks :-)

Hello Laura. Thanks for the e-mail. I have replied to it.

As above we are only an online support forum and we do not have the facilty to exchange or refund mp3 players. For this you will need to contact the retailer. As you are away from the UK you will need to find out how to return it to them and how they will send you out a new one. If you payed by credit or debit card they may just refund you. That is the only information I can give you. Sorry I cannot help you further on this.
