Model : Play.com Black 4GB
Operating System : XP
Software : Winamp

Query : Hi there, I deleted various files from the root folder of my play.com black 4GB & I think I may have unwillingly deleted a file related to processing the title of the song currently playing.

the tracks just say thing like "yps ybG" etc

I still have the folders: "MANUAL" and "DRIVERS FOR WIN98 USERS"
with all files in them.

My question is simply, should I have any more folders or perhaps some files in the root folder itself?

If so, would you be able to e-mail those files to me so that I can paste them back in?

(this is all on the premise that this is related anyway, if this is an issue relating to something else, please let me know)

Thanks in advance,
It not possible to delete the ROOT directory of the mp3 player's storage drive. It is possible though for the root directory to become corrupted. You will get different jumbles up characters displayed on the mp3 player's screen. To solve this you will need to perform a FULL format. If possible back up your files before you format. Then right-click on the Removable Disk drive letter corresponding to the mp3 player, select FORMAT and click on the START button. This should fix the problem.

Deleting the preinstalled files from the player will not corrupt it in any way. In future make sure that, after you have copied the files, the mp3 player goes into WAIT mode (the little zzzzz in the middle of the display) before removing it from the USB socket.
